Penrickton Center for Blind Children is Hiring a Medical Assistant Near Taylor, MI

Penrickton Center for Blind Children is now hiring a hard working and motivated Medical Assistant to work part-time evenings for our unique non-profit agency serving blind, special needs children ages 1-12 years. The ideal candidate must enjoy working with special needs children and their families, is an effective member of a team, demonstrates critical thinking skills, makes confident decisions, is proficient in medical assessment, treatment and medication administration. If you are pursuing a career in nursing, medicine, or in other healthcare professions, we encourage you to apply, as this position provides relevant hands on experience for students pursuing college degrees.

Job duties and responsibilities include:

  • Perform all duties in a profession manner, as a member of a multidisciplinary team, and under the supervision of the registered nurse.
  • Dispense and administer all medications.
  • Assess children for suspected illness or health concerns, follow appropriate protocol and when necessary implement emergency procedures.
  • Provide resource information and referral to families, staff, and the general public.
  • Complete required documentation in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Ensure all agency policies are followed by parents and staff, providing supervision of staff.
  • Provide and/or participate in on-going in-service training for child care and professional staff.
  • Demonstrate excellent communication, critical thinking and problem solving skills.
  • Participate in public relations responsibilities including providing tours, speaking publicly and and engaging in fundraising activities.
  • Communicate with parents in person and by telephone, keeping them informed about their child's development and daily routine.
  • Assist in maintaining supplies, ensure the building is kept in a clean, orderly, and safe condition.
  • Maintain appropriate confidential records.

Morning Hours

  • Monday through Thursday 5pm to 10pm & Friday 1:30pm-7:15pm
  • Additional mandatory hours include approximately 5-10 fundraising or public events per year and yearly training in mid-June from 10:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
  • No holidays! No Saturdays or Sundays!
  • Fill-in hours available.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • High school diploma or equivalent degree required (Completion of a medical assistant education program or relevant degree required.)
  • Be free from felony conviction & willing to complete finger print and background screening
  • Valid driver's license
  • Able to lift 50 lbs.
